What is Branding Photography? - Kitchener-Waterloo Headshots Photography
Branding photography is the first impression your business makes on anyone who finds you online or in print. That’s a lot of people! So how do you make a great impression on them, if they’re not meeting you in person to experience your fabulous personality? They’re going to read what you’ve written, but they’re going to spot your photos first. Think of your branding photos as your business’s favourite outfit, the one you wear and feel totally confident in, and the one that really feels like you. Now that’s good branding photography!
Great brand photos make your business stand out in a crowd! They separate you from anyone else who does what you do, and let your ideal clients and customers know who you are and what your vibe is. These photos can do some heavy lifting for you in terms of attracting the right folks (and letting those who aren’t a good fit know they should keep looking).
Branding photos are so much more than product photos, and it’s not just product-based businesses who benefit from them! Imagine a full set of images that all look cohesive. They feature your brand colours, they share a vibe, and they all feel like they go together. Now splash them all over your website, social media, and print materials, and people who “meet” your business instantly know what you’re all about.
These photos offer your dream clients and customers a full look at your business. We’ve got to show you being awesome at what you do! We’ll also show the details of your work, the behind the scenes stuff you do, what people can expect when they meet you for the first time, and how they’re going to feel interacting with you.
The photos in this blog feature MJ, a family dog mediator (and all-around truly awesome person!) who is doing a fantastic job of showing her potential clients what it’s like to work with her. Check out https://my-girl-friday.ca/ for more of her work, and to see how she’s using her branding photos. Special thanks to Callie, who is of course, the goodest girl and deserves lots of treats!
So how do you find a brand photographer you can trust to create images that are going to do all of these things?
For me, it starts with getting to know your business. I won’t touch my camera until we’ve had a (free!) consultation where I can ask LOTS of questions! I need to know what these photos need to scream to your ideal clients and customers, like a flashing neon sign that you’re the only possible person doing what you do that they would even want to consider working with! This is allllll about your business, and that means it’s allllll about your clients and customers, and what will tell them you’re the perfect fit.
MJ needed some photos that showed her at work in all of the aspects of her business, as well as some photos she could submit when she writes guest articles or appears as a featured speaker, like this one. That meant that I needed a complete picture of the different ways she works with her four-legged clients and their humans, and the types of work she does that clients might not see or think of right away. A good consultation is key to understanding what your photos need to do for you!
